I moved and replaced my CA DL with a WA DL. My CA DL has not expired and was returned to me with a hole punched. I recently misplaced my WA license, now awaiting my replacement to be mailed back to me. My US passport is expired. Did the Officer punch a hole in your Driver’s License? (Update) The law changed in 2015 and officers are no longer instructed to punch a hole in the driver’s license.

Hi – a query from a West Australian driver to someone familiar with South Australian driver's licenses. A lass from South Australia was involved in a minor bingle with our daughter here in Western Australia – the S.A driver merged at the last minute without indicating and our daughter's shoo roo hit her bootlid. We are prepared to pay the cost of the repair because the S.A girl said it was her sister's car and she was uninsured. However we feel it is still reasonable to establish that this S.A girl is licensed and legally allowed to drive before forking out the cost of the repair.

The reason we'd like to establish if she has a license is because her story has changed several times in the last week. The first time this S.A. Driver told us she had a license but she didn't have it on her and she know her D.L number – she also said she was driving her sister's car. Then a few days later the sister rang us – claiming to be the owner of the car and told us her younger sister only had a S.A. Learner's license. Then today the driver sent us a text and this time she said the car was her father's not her sister's. She also sent a copy of her red P S.A.

License but it appears to have a hole punched in it. In Western Australia my father had a hole punched in his license when he handed it in due to his age (he was 90). They punched a hole in it then handed it back to him so he could use it for ID purposes – but the hole punched in it meant it was invalid.

I've perused the internet and it appears punching a hole in a license is a way of saying a driver's license is invalid in other states of Australia too. And overseas they punch holes in licenses if you are caught driving under the influence. But there is nothing definitive on the South Australian gov. Website or the internet to say what a hole punched in a S.A driver's license means. I googled images of South Aussie P licenses and they don't appear to have holes punched in them like this girl's red P license. I tried ringing the S.A licensing but they wouldn't tell me if the girl's driver's license was valid or not – they said it is a privacy issue. Is there any way of checking if someone's S.A.

SA girl was in front and she had to merge. I can only assume that must be the forced merge, where two lanes become one. Its only to be expected that she would be merging. You said she give your daughter the *maximum* time to adapt speed and gap and cover her brake pedal too.
